Thanks for the advice, everyone. As for branching out into BsG, I liked the miniseries, but I'll give it a season or two before I try to catch up.

I'm with Jerie. Farscape is anti-Trek. Science is not even an issue here, they don't even try. I haven't even heard any techno-babble in the first season.

Crichton just jumped out of a space ship with a (gun, phaser, whatever) and survived long enough to climb into another ship. WITHOUT a space suit. That being said, it was a great ep.

We're liking Farscape anyway. Good characters, some cool villians (are they or aren't they?) and the ship is alive.

If you're really asking advice, I'd say BSG. I saw the miniseries and was seriously impressed. Gravity plating and propulsion aside, they do make an effort to hew to science. Great, flawed characters; tense, life and death situations; lots and lots of stuff left dangling for writers to explore.

My favorite so far: If Six is a figment of Balthar's imagination now, then how is she able to move his hair and clothes? Maybe it's a blooper, but what if it isn't? Now what? Where is he really? What's really "real" here?

I won't spoil Starbuck for you, if you haven't seen the miniseries yet, but there's a wealth of emotional territory in her to explore.

Well, I'm beginning to really like Atlantis, although I'm not the McKay lover a lot of fans seem to be. He still annoys me, even if I do see redeeming qualities in him. I do agree with Rocky that the toys are cooler (especially the puddlejumpers) and Dr. Beckett shines, but Sheppard is my favorite character so far. He might fill your need for Jack!Snark.

However, if you want something a little different, I'd say go with Farscape. John Crichton isn't Jack, but he's snarky and tragic at the same time. Plus, he's just hot. (Although that's not usually a requirement for you.) Other fun stuff: Aeryn discovers her humanity. Some cheesy aliens - and some not so cheesy. However, the one thing you personally might not like about it is that if there is a choice between logically explaining the science or going for the emotional impact, they always go for the emotional impact. The science often suffers. Still it's a great show and you'll get exposed to Ben Browder and Claudia Black, who will both be on SG1 next year.

After Farscape, I'd pick Battlestar Galactica. It's only a 4-hour mini-series + 13 eps so far and it's just a terrific show. So, so, so much better than the original. This show has wonderful, real characters, truly suspenseful stories, and lots of unanswered questions - the good kind of unanswered questions, that make you tune in for more. I'm loving it!

Go for Atlantis. There's plenty of McKay snark and Sheppard is cute *g*. The real winner among the characters so far, however, is Dr. Beckett. Atlantis also has way cooler toys than SG-1.
