I ended up quitting Sidenote because I didn't really care for the drawer interface. I'm still searching for the ultimate note-taking/organizing application.

GraphViz looks cool, but for scene-to-scene mind-mapping pen and paper is just too hard to beat. If I ever get around to serious plotting, though, I think GraphViz would be better that OmniGraffle for the purpose.

Hi, I'm glad you found the article useful. I think you'll find that SideNote is a very handy tool - I tend to use it to keep links myself, along with phone numbers, unimportant password and so on. Definitely one of the best third-party utilities for the Mac, I'd say.

GraphViz requires you to read through its docs first, to learn its syntax, but you don't really need to see more than the first two or three pages to be able to do most things relevant to a typical writer. It's a great brain-storming tool, or for anything that be put into graph form. Cross-platform too, which is always nice!
