Site of obscure interest: la Fée Verte - everything you ever wanted to know about absinthe but were afraid to ask

A couple of contests closed today. I’m still working on my J/P fic, so I was unable to enter TomKat 2002. To make up for it, I finished my ChetSev series as threatened and submitted it to Die J/C Die. (No characters were killed, only relationships.) For those of you who’ve suffered through the first four parts, the last one is also available on its own page: Every Word I Said. I didn’t have time to add either to the index, and I’m not particularly proud of this last-minute, unbetaed addition to my old series of C/7 episode additions.

Read at your own risk.

It’s beginning to look a lot like…

Word count: 41,000

It was white in Boston today, not good weather for the biggest travel day of the year. I skipped out of work early to catch the bus to Fall River. Now I’m dialing up from a rotary line, of all things - but the trusty mac can do it. The mac can do anything. Neither snow nor sleet nor whatever the other stuff was…

Thanksgiving is when the Christmas decorations start coming out, and in honor of Sylvia’s J/C Christmas Contest, Jade’s story Hope has been dressed up in snowflakes. I’d dress up my old J/C non-Christmas story, but I’ve spent too much time hacking the CSS for one day. Snowflakes are compliments of Pat’s Web Graphics.

The Sound of One Wing Flapping

New at Zendom: A Fandom Thanksgiving.

New at Jemima’s Trek: Jade’s new Awesome Artist Award for a lovely Janeway sketch is up. She also has a story forthcoming for Sylvia’s J/C Christmas contest.

BRAD Today

Sunday, October 13th, 2002

Believe it or not, fic: Beta Energy, a tribute to spelling, Mary Sues, and Voyager betas everywhere.
Thank you, Jade & company!

Otherwise, I’ve been working on my stylesheets, using a test blog on my mac,
but as soon as I’ve got the CSS spruced
up I’ll be back to writing those other fics I’ve been threatening,
along with a Buffy Dead Letter that hit me out of the blue yesterday.

Late-breaking Update

Friday, October 11th, 2002

It’s late, but I’ve been putting off my list update for too long now. If I don’t
do it this minute, I won’t get to it until Sunday and I’ll have BRAD business to attend to then.

Most of the recent additions have been for Jade, whose new J/C story
Idle Hands Make Opportunity tied for first
place in the Romance category of Mixed Doubles. Jade also has some pencil
drawings of Chakotay and Janeway up, with more coming, pencil
permitting.

I’ve upgraded my blog to MoveableType 2.5 and hope to make some
stylistic changes soon. Coming this weekend is a new story, “Beta Energy,”
written in honor of
Beta
Reader Appreciation Day
. My other recent bits of fan writing have been a
parody chapter of Pride and Prejudice and a filk or two, which
can be found in the Ficlets category of the
blog.

The revisions to “Colony” have been preempted by several other fic ideas,
and next month will be further postponed by NaNoWriMo. Breath should not
be held.

Progress

Sunday, September 1st, 2002

Thanks to the holiday, I’ve already added a few scenes to the beginning
of Colony. All my deep thoughts are about subplots - I think I’ll get Harry in trouble
with an ABOTW. In fact, I think I need to involve all the crewmembers I neglected
the first time around, except the Doctor. He’s always left me cold. Give me Tuvok
any day…

Seema Spores

Sunday, August 4th, 2002

I’d be interested to know just how much Trek fanfic has resulted from
dares and challenges issued by Seema. Here’s the latest entry in the rolls of
Seema-incited fic, a post-Endgame comedy of obscure pairings:
Than Fade Away. I thought the
muse was dead, but it turns out she’s just been busy baking.

Also new on-site is Jade’s latest J/C fic,
Layered Logic.

Jemima Roast

Thursday, June 27th, 2002

The lovely ladies at the J/C Index message board are planning to
discuss
my long-lost Voyager novel, Colony.
I’ve even made a non-binding agreement to edit (ok, rewrite) the thing based
on reader input. I’m not sure I meant that one.

In any event, if you’d like to join in the fun, you have about two weeks to
read or reread Colony, or at least dig up your old critiques and prepare
them for posting at the
message
board
. I’ll tell you more as it hits the fan. I may also run a blog bash in
parallel or conjunction or maybe do something on my dormant
updates list
for the occasion.

Fun with Perl

Friday, June 14th, 2002

The zendom mod quiz seems to
have been outed; for a track-the-meme experiment, I’m already way behind.
Today I managed, after a long time dreaming of the day, to exempt myself
permanently from my own site statistics. I’ll write up the details eventually and
stick them in the technical difficulties section. I
should rename and rearrange that while I’m at it.

Also new and exciting are the
Golden Rules of Fandom on EEVIYE.

Jade Making Waves

Tuesday, May 28th, 2002

My lovely hostee and underemployed beta reader, Jade East, has won a couple of awards for her story, Carpet of Blossoms:
