We’ll Always have Secretaries of Defense

I forgot to mention last time that the repository has been updated too, with a screenshot for comtrya plus a spelling correction for the Secretary of Defense thanks to Jessa.

We’ll Always Have Drabbles

Monday, April 5th, 2004

I’ve put a few stray Stargate drabbles up on the SG-1 fic page. There’s a second Stargate filk in the works, and of course the long-lost Colony is coming sooner or later.

Chimerette

Friday, January 30th, 2004

I’m just wrapping up my filk musical for last-minute posting to ASC. The Sound of Borgness has been in progress for just a year and a half, making it rather new for my Trek fic. Strangely enough, the hardest song to filk was “Something Good,” though I like it and the meter is pretty straightforward. This is the first hard evidence I have that “Something Good” isn’t all that good - I’ve never understood the anti-”Something Good” sentiment among people who like the rest of the cheese in The Sound of Music.

The link to my commentary on “The Lamne’rau” works now. I’ll put The Sound of Borgness up later this weekend - posting it to ASC is my current priority.

On the Stargate side, I wrote a drabble for tonight’s episode, “Chimera” - All Clear. I haven’t seen the ep, so spoilers are minimal. This is the first time I’ve written a Stargate story about episodes I haven’t seen, though I used to do it all the time in Voyager. Even now I’m not sure which Voyager episodes I’ve seen and which ones I only read about in Jim’s Voyager Reviews.

Toasty!

Mars picture of the day: a Martian

Heat has returned to the nether reaches of my apartment. In celebration, I’ve put up three new Stargate drabbles, which can be found on the fic list. Jade’s drabble pick of the day is We have no joy on the burn, my “Tangent” episode addition. Jerie also endorses it, so you can’t go wrong there.

As promised, the new Stargate schmoop is up: The Universe Survival Guide. It’s not just schmoop - it’s also humor. Nevertheless, read at your own risk. Beware of kissyface.

There are also 3 new SG drabbles: Slippery Slope (”Shades of Grey”), A River in Egypt (”Divide and Conquer”), and Resignations (”Window of Opportunity”).

Now I feel like I should write serious SG fic, if that isn’t a contradiction in terms. Schmooping has given me the feeling I’m regressing to my J/C days - though I have nothing against schmoop in principle, I still feel the schmoop-guilt. I should have been working on Colony…

I knew I’d forgotten something when I did my updates list mailing. Liz made me a lovely new button:
jemima

Besides the button, there are three new Stargate drabbles up on the Stargate fic page. I wrote Ha’taaka back in October but didn’t put it up because it was supposed to be a companion to the new Harsesis. Things didn’t quite work out that way. The other new one is Brain Cramp - all three are based on Season 2 episodes.

Finally Unpacked

Word count: don’t hold your breath

Veronica moved up the street in August and still has some boxes left to unpack. I moved here to irth.net at the end of May and all of my fic has finally followed. There were a few stories I didn’t convert to ficml because they had some complicated markup, like The Museum and Filk of La Mancha, but I did add the preference picker php code to them so they look more or less like the automatically generated pages.

One exception is Colony which is officially down for revisions, though truly industrious readers will be able to find it. Please tell me if you find anything else missing - feel free to use the feedback form for that sort of thing. Thanks!

Fic Migration

Word count: 0

In a spate of not-nanoing, I converted most of my fic to ficml and moved it here to ficml.org. Along with the ficml conversion comes the preference picker, and I also tossed in a feedback form like Jade’s. You can see the new look on, say, The Other Side of the Gate, recently recced by Seldear (thanks!), or on filky classics like Raj of Rage and Yesterday, When I Was Borg.

Not all of the reams of Voyager fic has been converted yet so the VOY fic index still redirects to freeshell, but all other fic (Buffy, TOS, miscellaneous Trek) is now housed locally, including a new Stargate drabble that’s been languishing in xml until now: Canary Song.

The point of this sudden attention to my long-neglected off-site non-Stargate fic was to enter some of it in the Voyager J/C Decathlon. (It wasn’t my idea - I was pestered.) Anyway, my entries, in order of size and category, are:

I’ve also finally added a visited link color to the blog. It looks better already.

The Other Side

The Other Side of the Gate is officially up. Many have read the unofficial version of the Stargate/Voyager crossover I wrote for BRAD. Now thanks to Jerie the typos are gone and Sam is even geekier than before.

We’ve Got Drabbles

Sunday, November 2nd, 2003

Word count: 2000

Four new drabbles have been added to the Stargate fic page, and Jade’s award for Purple Comet and another interesting graphic are up on her page.

I’m still typing up a storm for NaNoWriMo, despite Rocky’s words of no nano. All I can say is that most writers need deadlines or they’d never get anything written. Procrastination is human nature, and NaNoWriMo is only a temporary antidote.
